How one moment of heartbreak turned into a mission of hope.
The idea for this nonprofit started on an ordinary morning. My husband and I were drinking coffee, half-watching the news, when a story stopped us cold. A Vietnam veteran in his late 70s, right here in Jacksonville, Florida, had a home that had fallen into such severe disrepair that the city had been fining him for months. By the time help finally arrived, it was too late — the home was condemned.
I turned to my husband and said, “Why is there not something that helps people before it gets to this point?” That question followed us out the door.
Later that day, on the drive out of town for vacation, my husband said the words that changed everything: “We should start a nonprofit.”
All across our communities, there are people who simply cannot keep up with the exterior of their homes anymore. Age, disability, chronic illness, injury, or financial hardship slowly pulls them behind, until what started as an overgrown yard or a clogged gutter becomes code violations, fines, isolation, and shame.
There are wonderful organizations dedicated to housing the unhoused, rebuilding after disasters, and supporting our veterans. But very few are focused on something quieter and just as urgent — helping people keep the homes they already have, before a situation becomes a crisis. That is the gap we exist to fill.
Through lawn care, pressure washing, roof and gutter cleaning, debris removal, overgrowth cleanup, and other exterior maintenance, we step in early — while a home is still a home, and a homeowner still has their footing.
Our goal is simple: no one should lose their home, their safety, or their dignity simply because they could not physically keep up anymore.
